The Founders' Academy Emerging Leader Information

Selecting an Emerging Leader…from any academic class

To ensure a chapter’s continued health and wellbeing, it is important to foster the leadership development of ALL Sisters. This summer, the Chapter President and emerging leaders are being asked to join other Alpha Xi Deltas from around the country in a leadership experience unlike any other.

Drawing on Alpha Xi Delta's commitment to members' strengths, The Founders Academy (TFA) will focus on the development and application of CliftonStrengths principles as Sisters learn to utilize their strengths to illuminate their leadership styles and feel empowered to take on the year ahead by focusing on self-care and leading with their strengths!

It’s easy to select the Chapter President—it’s the person who holds that title in the chapter. But, what makes an “emerging leader” and how does a chapter select one? How do you know who will be a good fit for this program?

Qualities to look for in your emerging leader selection:

  • Strong dedication to your chapter and Alpha Xi Delta

  • Participates in activities/events, volunteers to help, follows through on her commitments

  • Others look to her for advice/guidance

  • Not necessarily the loudest or most vocal, but when she speaks others listen

  • Someone that you would be proud of to represent your chapter on a national level

  • Maybe this year you offer to send a rising senior—someone who has dedicated themselves to the chapter and you know will be a guiding force in how older members view their last active year. Perhaps it’s a newly initiated Sister who showed up for everything and got others excited to attend events. What about the person who quietly did the work behind the scenes to ensure success? Who else in your chapter has shown their dedication and love for Alpha Xi Delta?

Ways in which to select an emerging leader:

  • Ask chapter members, advisors, Fraternity/Sorority Advisor to nominate someone (this process can be run through the Executive Committee, Chapter President, and/or Advisor)

  • Ask for volunteers and have them complete a short application (Why do you want to attend? What would you bring back from this experience? How will you better the chapter because of your attendance at TFA?) Executive Committee and/or chapter advisor can select.

  • Create a committee, or use the Executive Committee, to determine a list of qualities that the chapter values in a leader. From that list, identify women within the chapter who exemplify those qualities and seek them out for a conversation about attending TFA. Be sure to include the reasons why the committee thinks they would represent the chapter well.
