My grandmother, Phyllis Lovett, was a charter member of Alpha Xi Delta at West Virginia Wesleyan College for the Beta Sigma Chapter. The back of her Quill says initiation was October 18, 1947. I always wanted to go to Wesleyan like her. When I got there, I was nervous that maybe I would want to join a different sorority than my grandmother.
I went through recruitment and was relieved and thrilled that Alpha Xi Delta was the sorority I wanted to join. My grandmother and I were close, but it made us even closer. It was a special moment when she came to alumnae tea. My Sisters started clapping when she walked in. My grandmother passed away in 2014, one year after I graduated. I am thankful I’m a part of Alpha Xi Delta.
