Board Service Applications
Alpha Xi Delta’s Committee on Leadership invites you to apply and/or nominate Sisters to serve on the Fraternity’s 2025-27 National Council, the 2025-27 National Housing Corporation, and the Foundation’s 2025-29 Board of Trustees.
As you consider joining one of our Alpha Xi Delta boards, please familiarize yourself with the list of expectations for each board listed below. In addition, here are some questions to consider:
- Is Alpha Xi Delta the right cause and organization for me?
- Can I work with Alpha Xi Delta and this board at this particular stage in my life?
- What can I, and what will I, contribute to this organization?
- What do I want to get out of being on this board?
Applications
Sisters desiring to serve the Fraternity can apply for the national volunteer leadership positions. We encourage you to evaluate and engage your strengths to serve and advance our Fraternity. Applications must be received by January 31, 2025.
Nominations
Individual Sisters, college chapters and alumnae associations can nominate Sisters. Nominees will be contacted by the Committee on Leadership to ask her to complete an application. Nominations must be received by January 20, 2025 to allow time for application completion.
*Please note that all applications and nominations will be given equal consideration, and a nomination is not required to apply.
Board Duties and Skill Sets
National Council
National Council is the executive and policy-making body of Alpha Xi Delta. National Council provides leadership, oversight, and guidance to fulfill the Fraternity’s vision (Inspiring women to realize their potential) and mission (To enrich the life of every Alpha Xi Delta). Strong leadership has been the trademark of Alpha Xi Delta since 1893. Our Fraternity thrives today because of the bold, talented women who serve and have served as National Council members.
Desired Skills:
- Critical, creative thinking with the ability to look at the facts, explore potential options and solutions, and determine how a decision will impact end users, staff and host institutions
- Board governance experience
- Financial and business acumen; and/or legal expertise
- Higher education administration experience and/or knowledge of current college campus trends
- Nonprofit management experience with a volunteer driven organization
- Strong interpersonal and organizational culture skills
Foundation Trustee
Trustees are expected to be strong representatives of the Foundation, helping to share the Mission of the Foundation with current and future donors. They are expected to be leadership giving level Foundation contributors and strongly consider joining the Foundation’s planned giving circle. Trustees help to further the mission of the Foundation through supporting the Fraternity and Foundation’s priority programs and goals. Trustees are responsible for oversight of invested assets, establishing and following prudent investment policies and practices, working with staff regarding fundraising efforts, approve and monitor the annual Foundation budget, and helping to identify, cultivate and steward donors.
Desired Skills:
- Ability to work with other Trustees as a team to serve the best interests of the Foundation
- Nonprofit management or board governance experience including fundraising/development
- Solid working knowledge of finance such as accounting, cash/treasury management, investment/asset management, and budget review and monitoring
- Ability to serve on one or more working committees
- Strong interpersonal communication skills
- Ability to review an array of program related and financial report and exercise appropriate due diligence
National Housing Corporation Board Member
Alpha Xi Delta’s National Housing Corporation (NHC) board sets a high standard for chapter facilities by ensuring the Alpha Xi Delta brand is protected and our members have safe, secure places that enhance the living and learning environment of the chapter. NHC board members work to fulfill the mission of the Alpha Xi Delta National Housing Corporation (NHC), supporting local corporation boards and its collegiate chapters, and supporting chapter facilities that provide an environment promoting Sisterhood, learning, wellbeing, and growth.
Desired Skills:
- Professional property management and/or commercial construction experience
- Financial and banking acumen
- Interior design experience
- Deferred maintenance portfolio experience
- Strong working knowledge of marketing and communications

Alpha Xi Delta Board Leadership Webinar Series
This 6-part webinar series will assist you in learning more about board level leadership within Alpha Xi Delta. The series covers Alpha Xi Delta initiatives, volunteer structures, Alpha Xi Delta’s governance model, and the expectations, skills and time commitment of each national board. There’s also a quiz to see if board level leadership is right for you. Completing this webinar series is highly recommended prior to applying for a board level role.
Virtual Informational Session
This virtual information session will feature panelists who have or are currently serving on one of Alpha Xi Delta’s three national governing boards: the National Council, the Alpha Xi Delta Foundation, and the National Housing Corporation. They discuss why they chose to serve the Fraternity in this way, what skills helped them succeed, and how board service has helped them personally and professionally.
