Karen's Story

When I started school at the University of Illinois in 1987, I had not planned on joining a sorority but I was invited to informal recruitment by a friend in my dorm. From the moment I walked in the door, I felt like I belonged. Alpha Xi Delta gave me opportunities to learn more about myself and those around me, while having a great time.

Alpha Xi Delta became more special to me when my sister, Jill, joined during my Senior Year. Like me she had no intention of joining a sorority and definitely not the one that I was in but she felt like she belonged too. This brought us closer together and created memories that I cherish.

I have remained in contact with many of my Alpha Xi Delta Sisters over the years through Christmas cards, visits and Facebook. Although I moved to Texas in 1994, Kappa Chapter at Illinois will always be a part of my life.

Fast forward to 2018, my daughter, Beth began school at West Virginia University. She indicated that she wanted to Rush which was a surprise. I told her there was absolutely no pressure for her to join Alpha Xi Delta or any other sorority that she needed to do what felt right for her. As she went through rush, there were 2 houses that stuck out in each round for her one of them being Alpha Xi Delta which became her first choice. She was thrilled to receive a bid from Iota Chapter at West Virginia University and she is loving being a part of the house. My sister and I both enjoyed being a part of her initiation and sharing this special Sisterhood with her. I look forward to hearing all of the things she gains from being a part of Alpha Xi Delta.
