This November, Alpha Xi Delta is proud to celebrate our second annual Day of Service—a meaningful opportunity for Sisters across the country to come together in support of youth experiencing foster care or homelessness. Rooted in our commitment to inspire women to realize their potential, Day of Service allows us to put our values into action through hands-on projects benefiting Local Impact Organizations and our Key Impact Organizations, FosterClub and StandUp for Kids. Whether we serve as a chapter, an alumnae association, or individually, every act of service contributes to something greater.
Collegiate chapters can participate by identifying a need with their Local Impact Organization or selecting a project that benefits one of our Key Impact Organizations. Project ideas and resources are available in the Member Portal. Service opportunities might include preparing meals, assembling hygiene or care kits, collecting essential items through a donation drive, volunteering at a shelter or food bank, or completing another project requested by an Impact Organization. Chapters are encouraged to connect with their chosen organization in advance, listen to what is genuinely needed, and select a project that will provide meaningful support.
Alumnae associations can bring Sisters together through service while strengthening connections across generations. Associations might partner with a local nonprofit for an on-site volunteer experience, host a supply drive, prepare requested items for a community organization or collaborate with a nearby collegiate chapter. Projects can be adapted to fit the size, interests, schedules, and abilities of each association. Even a small group of Sisters can make an important difference when its service is purposeful and responsive to community needs.
General alumnae do not need to belong to an alumnae association to participate. Sisters can volunteer with an organization in their own communities, invite family members or friends to serve alongside them, donate needed supplies, complete a service project from home or connect with a nearby collegiate chapter or alumnae association. Individual acts of service are an important part of our collective effort and demonstrate that membership in Alpha Xi Delta extends far beyond the collegiate years. Check the fraternity website for a list of Day of Service projects that individual Sisters can join!
As we prepare for our second annual Day of Service, we invite every Sister to consider how she can contribute her time and talents. Together, our collegiate chapters, alumnae associations, and individual alumnae can strengthen communities, support organizations doing vital work, and bring Alpha Xi Delta’s Philanthropy Pillar to life. No act of service is too small—and when thousands of Sisters serve with a shared purpose, our collective impact is extraordinary!
