Alpha Xi Delta’s Committee on Leadership invites you to apply and/or nominate Sisters to serve on the Fraternity’s 2027-29 National Council, the 2027-29 National Housing Corporation, and the Foundation’s 2027–31 Board of Trustees.

Applying for a Board Position
Sisters desiring to serve the Fraternity can apply for the national volunteer leadership positions.  We encourage you to evaluate and engage your strengths to serve and advance our Fraternity. Applications must be received by January 31, 2027. *Please note that all applications and nominations will be given equal consideration, and a nomination is not required to apply.  

Nominating a Sister
Individual Sisters, college chapters and alumnae associations can also nominate Sisters. Nominated Sisters will be contacted by a Committee on Leadership representative to ask her to complete an application. Nominations must be received by January 20, 2027 to allow time for application completion.  *Please note that all applications and nominations will be given equal consideration, and a nomination is not required to apply.  

Educational Opportunities 

Alpha Xi Delta Board Leadership Course
The “Alpha Xi Delta Board Governance and Leadership” LombardLearn course will assist you in learning more about board level leadership within Alpha Xi Delta. The course covers our governance model, and the expectations, skills and time commitment of national board members. There’s also a quiz to see if board level leadership is right for you. Completing this course is required prior to applying for a board-level role. You can access the course in Member Portal. Once logged in, click on the LombardLearn tile and look for “Alpha Xi Delta Board Governance and Leadership.” 

The Board Slating Process 

Following the nominations and applications deadline, the Committee on Leadership will conduct a thorough process to evaluate the experiences and strengths of our candidates and the needs of our boards. The Committee on Leadership will review the applications and nominations, conduct interviews, and prepare a slate of candidates for the three national boards. In accordance with Alpha Xi Delta’s National Constitution, the slate and candidates’ resumes are sent to those eligible to vote at the 2027 National Convention. The three national board slates will then be voted on at National Convention in Orlando, Florida, June 23-27, 2027. National Board Expectations and Desired Skill Sets  

As you consider joining one of our Alpha Xi Delta boards, please familiarize yourself with the expectations and desired skill sets for Alpha Xi Delta board members. It is also important to note that Alpha Xi Delta is committed to justice, equity, and human dignity, which is directly linked to our core beliefs and foundational values. 

Expectations: 

• Be an Active Board Member – Regular meeting attendance, sometimes virtually, sometimes in person, is imperative for the board to function.  Board members are elected for their experience and perspective, their ability to analyze information and make decisions that will be in the best interest of Alpha Xi Delta, and their participation and voice in the meetings is integral for its success.   

• Meet Travel Expectations –  There may be some travel commitments based on the board role and its function.  Board members regularly represent Alpha Xi Delta at various events and programs.  Participating in Alpha Xi Delta’s events and programs are also important, for both visibility as well as a deeper understanding of the work, relevancy, and connectedness of Alpha Xi Delta.   

• Serve on a Board Committee – Board members may also be asked to chair and/or sit on sub-committees within the board. A sister’s ability to participate in committee work is an important aspect of serving on a national board. Alpha Xi Delta board members do not have a predetermined dedicated focus on functional areas of Fraternity operations, but there are certain governance oversight requirements and special project needs that are carried out in board committee work.  

• Support the Alpha Xi Delta Foundation – Alpha Xi Delta is able to offer a robust member experience and programming due to the generous support of the Alpha Xi Delta Foundation. Board participation also comes with a financial commitment to the Alpha Xi Delta Foundation.  We will review the expectations and commitments for each board during education sessions focused on each specific board.  

Desired Skill Sets: 

• Strategic Thinking and Vision – Ability to evaluate opportunities, establish priorities, and help guide the long-term direction of the organization.  

• Financial Acumen – Understanding of budgeting, financial oversight, investment management, or nonprofit financial stewardship.  

• Communication Skills – Strong written, verbal, and interpersonal communication abilities.  

• Relationship Building – Ability to collaborate effectively, foster partnerships, and engage stakeholders.  

• Governance Knowledge – Familiarity with board responsibilities, fiduciary duties, policy development, and organizational oversight.  

• Leadership Experience – Proven experience leading teams, organizations, committees, or initiatives.  

• Fundraising and Philanthropy – Experience with donor relations, fundraising strategies, sponsorships, or charitable giving.

National Council  

National Council is the executive and policy-making body of Alpha Xi Delta. National Council provides leadership, oversight, and guidance to fulfill the Fraternity’s vision (Inspiring women to realize their potential) and mission (To enrich the life of every Alpha Xi Delta). Strong leadership has been the trademark of Alpha Xi Delta since 1893. Our Fraternity thrives today because of the bold, talented women who serve and have served as National Council members. 

National Housing Corporation 

Alpha Xi Delta’s National Housing Corporation (NHC) board sets a high standard for chapter facilities by ensuring the Alpha Xi Delta brand is protected and our members have safe, secure places that enhance the living and learning environment of the chapter. NHC board members work to fulfill the mission of the Alpha Xi Delta National Housing Corporation (NHC), supporting local corporation boards and its collegiate chapters, and supporting chapter facilities that provide an environment promoting Sisterhood, learning, wellbeing, and growth. 

Foundation Trustee

Trustees are expected to be strong representatives of the Foundation, helping to share the Mission of the Foundation with current and future donors. They are expected to be leadership giving level Foundation contributors and strongly consider joining the Foundation’s planned giving circle. Trustees help to further the mission of the Foundation through supporting the Fraternity and Foundation’s priority programs and goals. Trustees are responsible for oversight of invested assets, establishing and following prudent investment policies and practices, working with staff regarding fundraising efforts, approving and monitoring the annual Foundation budget, and helping to identify, cultivate and steward donors.
