Celebrating Sisterhood: How to Prepare for and Honor Alpha Xi Delta’s Founders’ Day

Founders’ Day is the perfect time to reflect on the bold vision, courageous spirit, and desire for a supportive Sisterhood established by Alpha Xi Delta’s ten Founders. It’s a celebration of our shared values, a recommitment to our mission, and a chance to connect generations of Sisters. 

Whether you’re planning a chapter or association event or celebrating as an alumna, here are a few things to help you prepare for Founders’ Day on April 17. 

Plan a Meaningful Event 

Founders’ Day can be celebrated in ways both big and small. 

Ideas for your celebration: 

  • Formal dinner or brunch with a short program or speaker that highlights our history and Sisterhood.  
  • Focus on Ritual to deepen tradition and connection. Visit the Resource Center in Member Portal to download Founders’ Day ceremonies.  
  • Host a service activity that supports the philanthropic focus of the Kindly Hearts Initiative. You can create hygiene kits to donate to a local nonprofit or fundraise for an organization that supports children and teens experiencing foster care or homelessness.  
  • Virtual gatherings are also great to include Sisters across different locations.

Give Back to the Alpha Xi Delta Foundation for Founders’ Day of Giving 

One of the most impactful ways to celebrate Founders’ Day is by supporting the Alpha Xi Delta Foundation with their Day of Giving Campaign on April 17. You can help the Foundation reach its goal by encouraging participation at your Founders’ Day event. Be sure to share the giving page link (live on April 17!). If your Founders’ Day event is being held before Founders’ Day, send a follow up email or create a social media post to ensure other Sisters are reminded about Day of Giving. 

Speaking of social media, it is always a great idea to share photos from your event so that people who couldn’t attend can see the fun! This can help you advertise your next event or meeting as well.  

End with Reflection  

It wouldn’t be an Alpha Xi Delta celebration if we didn’t close with everyone joining hands and singing “The Sisterhood of Women”! Here are a few other prompts to consider asking Sisters when you are closing out your Founders’ Day celebration:
