Kingston, Rhode Island – February 12, 2012 marked the initiation of 49 women into Alpha Xi Delta’s Beta Upsilon Chapter at the University of Rhode Island (URI).

Alpha Xi Delta alumnae and the Beta Upsilon Chapter Sisters gathered at the Hotel Viking in Kingston, Rhode Island, for the Installation ceremony and a celebratory reception to honor the new chapter. At the event, the Fraternity presented the re-established Beta Upsilon Chapter with their official charter and a chapter gavel.

“We are overjoyed to welcome the Beta Upsilon Chapter back into our Sisterhood,” said Sandi Edwards, Alpha Xi Delta National President. “The Chapter is a strong link in our Sisterhood. Many outstanding women have come from the Beta Upsilon Chapter, and we are confident that many more young women will join Alpha Xi Delta’s legacy at the University of Rhode Island.”

The Chapter was originally installed at the University of Rhode Island on May 29, 1948, where it remained active until 2004. The National Fraternity accepted the invitation to recolonize on April 15, 2011, starting with the affiliation of local members of URI’s local sorority, Gamma Xi Delta. Alpha Xi Delta’s Beta Upsilon Chapter is now the 114th chapter in our Sisterhood and the 10th National Panhellenic Conference sorority to join Rhode Island’s Greek community.

Founded in 1893 at Lombard College, now Knox College, in Galesburg, Illinois, Alpha Xi Delta inspires women to realize their potential by providing opportunities for Sisterhood, leadership, knowledge and service.  The national women's fraternity has more than 150,000 initiated members and has chapters on 114 college campuses.  For more information on Alpha Xi Delta Fraternity, visit www.alphaxidelta.org.
