On March 30, 2012 Facebook required all Facebook pages to adopt the new Timeline feature. At first glance, the new layout can be confusing, and many of us Alpha Xis are still learning about the new features.  To make sure that you are getting the latest news and updates from Alpha Xi Delta, read below to learn how to navigate through our Facebook Timeline.

When you first visit Alpha Xi Delta’s Facebook Timeline, take note of the tabs under our cover photo. These icons represent the same tabs that were previously located under our Facebook profile picture. This is where you can easily view Alpha Xi Delta’s photos, see how many people “like” Alpha Xi Delta and preview our landing page. Only four icons will show up under the cover photo, but if you click the dropdown box next to these icons you will see more options such as our YouTube channel, Alpha Xi Delta events and previous Facebook discussions.

After viewing our apps, you can scroll down and read our wall. Here you will see posts from Alpha Xi Delta on the left, and your comments and mentions of Alpha Xi Delta on the right. If you want to see who has been writing on Alpha Xi Delta’s Facebook page, click the “highlights” button, located at the top of our Timeline above the post box. This will open a dropdown menu, where you can select “posts by others.” Click this to see who has been writing on our Timeline and what important information has been posted.

Whenever Alpha Xi Delta has an important announcement to make, we will “pin” it to the top of our Timeline. This means the post will remain on top of our Timeline for seven days, giving Sisters time to see our post and relay the information.

Now that you know where to look for important information and updates, you may be wondering about Timeline’s new features and how to use them. One of the new things you may notice about our new look is the dates on the right-hand side of the screen. These dates lead all the way back to Alpha Xi Delta’s founding on April 17, 1893. Scroll through these dates to see how Alpha Xi Delta has grown since 1893, when chapters were founded, past National Presidents and much more.

Another great feature is the direct message tool. With the new Timeline, fans can message Alpha Xi Delta directly. This is a great way to ask a question or relay information to Fraternity Headquarters without publically posting on our Facebook wall.
